FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A broken water main is causing traffic issues in west Fort Worth.
The 24-inch water main ruptured at the intersection of University and Park Hill drives, just north of TCU, sending water gushing into the intersection.
“We just about have the break isolated, and the next step is to get down there and make the repair,” says Mary Gugliuzza with the Fort Worth Water Department.
Mike Drivdahl with Fort Worth Fire was at the scene Friday afternoon and says the pavement has buckled at that intersection.
“There's quite a bit of water on the road,” says Drivdahl. “A pretty big area of that road has been damaged at this point.”
Drivdahl says while water has gone into one front yard in that area, no homes have been damaged.
University Dr. is closed between Park Hill Dr: and McPherson Ave.
There’s no timetable for the roadway’s reopening.
“The water line is one thing, but the street is going to have to be repaired because it's buckled from one side to the other on University,” says Gugliuzza. “It's going to take us a while to get this repair made on the line, and then we'll have to come back and assess what needs to be done on the street.”
