Winds Down Power Lines, Causing Outages In North Texas

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) -This morning's storm brought rain and very strong winds which have resulted in thousands of power outages and lots of damage.

Sustained winds well over 30 miles-an-hour combined with gusts close to 50 were the problem.


Oncor is reporting power outtages across DFW: Dallas Co. 20,725, Tarrant Co. 54,000, Collin Co. 1,500, Denton Co. 4,600.

The severe weather threat is over, but moderate rain within embedded thunder will continue through Wednesday morning.

Peak gusts earlier this morning: 80mph wind gust in Grand Prairie, 78 at DFW, 76 at NAS in FTW, 73 in Richardson, and 71 in Addison.

Johnson County Emergency management tweeted video showing power poles snapped in Cleburne - with flames visible where the lines came down.

In Mesquite, a gas station manager says rain & wind started suddenly. "Customers would pull in but wouldn't dare get out of their car." He says his trash can got blown across a field. pic.twitter.com/lsQSNtNMua
