Starting Monday, June 8, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) will allow student-athletes in grades 7-12 to resume on-campus strength and conditioning workouts, in addition to sport specific instruction.
Many of these young people will be resuming physical activity after a long layoff during the COVID-19 shutdowns.
Dr. Troy Smurawa is Director of Sports Medicine at Children's Health Andrews Institute. He told KRLD's Chris Sommer it is extremely important for student-athletes to ramp up their athletic activities and not try to do too much too soon.
Dr. Smurawa also addressed the continuing concerns over spread of the coronavirus as schools prepare to resume sports this fall.
