'Phase One' of Texas Governor Greg Abbott's plan to reopen Texas businesses will begin unfolding this Friday, May 1.

Under the new executive orders issued by the governor on Monday, restaurants, retail and movie theaters will be allowed to resume business activities, although capacity at those establishments will be limited to no more than 25% until further notice.

At the same time, gyms, barber shops, nail salons and bars are among the businesses that are ordered to remain closed at least through mid-May.

Gov. Abbott said if COVID-19 continues to trend in a positive direction in Texas, the restrictions could be loosened further on or around May 18.

University of North Texas political science professor Dr. Kimi King said there are always political ramifications involved with decisions such as those made by the governor.

Dr. King talked about it Tuesday on the KRLD Morning News.
