Welcome to day one of hurricane season (it ends November 30th). It may get a bit active before the weeks-end in the SW Gulf of Mexico. More on that in a bit.
It's a quiet morning across North Texas with temperatures in the low seventies. More clouds than sun today with highs in the mid to upper eighties.
There is a small chance for a shower today...a little bit better chance tomorrow with highs in the upper eighties again.
Increasing clouds today with occasional rain showers. An isolated storm or two possible in Central Texas this afternoon. #dfwwx #ctxwx pic.twitter.com/4laIjLxhH3
— NWS Fort Worth (@NWSFortWorth) June 1, 2020By Wednesday, a very slim chance remains for a daytime shower, but the big story will be the heat building across the Metroplex. Some areas will jump up into the mid to upper nineties by weeks end and especially into this weekend. Upper nineties are possible west of Fort Worth by then.
Now, more on the tropics. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather across the western Yucatan. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather across the western Yucatan.
As we head into the first week of the official hurricane season, we will be monitoring for possible tropical development in the Bay of Campeche. #txwx pic.twitter.com/jRcXT2A2iU
— NWS Fort Worth (@NWSFortWorth) May 31, 2020This is forecast to move into the southern Gulf over the next 24 to 36 hours. There is a 50% chance of a named storm in the next 72 hours and a 70% chance in the next 5 days. The upper level conditions are favorable for development during this time frame. Upper level winds would then steer this system to the Texas coastal area by next week. After that, the track is still yet to be determined.
If it takes track to the west of the Metroplex, rain chances would increase "big time" towards the middle of next week.
I will be watching and informing as usual as we get closer to this possible event next week.
