DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Road rage has been on the rise for years...and it's not getting any better. But there are things you can do to damp down your rage.

You've probably noticed, people are angry - and some really angry. If you drive much you've likely discovered far to many people drive angry, leading to road rage incidents.

Clinical social worker, Dr Allan Schwartz says there are lots of reasons why people are angry, and it's not just politics. It's unrealistic expectations, crowded cities and highways, stress at work, or even a difficult home life that can send the wrong message that acting badly is ok.

Schwartz says many people feel comfortable threatening, even attacking people on the road. But he says it's not really personal, because many people are simply desensitized.

So what can you do?

He says parents can help by modeling good behavior behind the wheel..especially if you're kids are getting close to driving age. He says you can maage your own angry.

For example, try to ignore other drivers who are speeding, or cutting in an out of traffic. Don't let let their behavior trigger your anger.

And Before getting behind the wheel he suggests you adjust your attitude, think happy thoughts and count your blessings.....and breathe.
