Lubbock native Mac Davis has died at the age of 78.
A top song-writer, session musician and recording star in the 70s, he parlayed his fame into an acting career in films and on Broadway.
Davis also hosted his own TV variety program, The Mac Davis Show.
Born in 1942, Davis graduated from Lubbock High School at the age of 16.
One of his hits was his more-or-less autobiographical "Happiness Is Lubbock In My Rearview Mirror."
His death was announced last night, one day after news broke that he was critically ill following heart surgery in Nashville.
