The 49ers have made a major move to bolster their defensive line trading for Washington Commanders pass rusher and former number two overall pick Chase Young.

According to multiple reports, the 49ers will be sending a third round pick in the 2024 NFL draft to Washington for Young. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the deal.

Tom Pelissero was first to report the compensation.

Albert Breer of the MMQB added the 49ers pick going to Washington will be of the compensatory variety.

Young has 14 career sacks for Washington and five this season in seven games. The 2020 draft pick had 7.5 sacks in his rookie campaign when he played in 15 of 16 games but injuries hampered his production in 2021 and 2022. Young tore the ACL in his right knee in November of 2021 and played in just 12 games with 1.5 sacks over those two seasons and missed this season's opening game with a stinger but has been healthy since.
