HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez is dealing with an illness of some sort, Dusty Baker confirmed Monday after it was first reported by The Athletic.
"He's fine," Baker said. "He's better today than he was yesterday."
Alvarez was not present on the field during pregame introductions before the Astros 2-0 loss in game one of the ALCS, and he did not speak to reporters after finishing 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Baker declined to reveal the symptoms he's dealing with.
Baker moved Alvarez down a spot in his order for Monday's second game of the ALCS, which he said was more about getting Kyle Tucker's slumping bat going, and he did not consider leaving Alvarez, who hit four homers against the Twins in the ALDS, out of his lineup.
"I was telling somebody yesterday, as a responsible man, a family man, you go to work, and I never saw my dad in the bed ever sick, and I'm sure he was sick. Sometimes as a man you just go to work."
