Dirk Nowitzki has been retired for three years but he is still making history.
Nowitzki's No. 14 national team jersey will be retired at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 on Sept. 1. Nowitzki will be the first German player to have his number retired by the national team.
The jersey retirement ceremony will take place in Cologne when Germany takes on France to kick off the EuroBasket tournament.
Nowitzki's No. 41 jersey was retired in January during an elaborate ceremony with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, members of the 2011 championship team and his mentor Holger Geschwinder all in attendance.
