Jimmy Johnson floated a rather interesting choice for the vacant Detroit Lions head coaching job: Jason Garrett.

The Fox Sports analyst suggested on Sunday’s pregame show that the New York Giants offensive coordinator and former Dallas Cowboys head coach would be a good fit for the Lions.

Since the Lions decided to part ways with Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn last week, many have pointed to San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as a good fit for Detroit.

Saleh is a Detroit native and is considered to be an attractive head coaching candidate due to the success he has had in building one of the best defenses in the league in San Francisco. Richard Sherman has advocated for him, even Michigan lawmakers have weighed in on Saleh.

Yet, Garrett, who was head coach for 10 years in Dallas, certainly has experience under his belt. He went 85-67 as head coach of the Cowboys, but was seen as a disappointment due to making the playoffs only three times and often falling short of expectations with talented rosters.

Johnson’s suggestion of Garrett did not seem to go over well with fans, though. Many whom tuned into the pregame show were quick to share their thoughts on the potential of Garrett as Lions head coach.

Needless to say, it was not very positive.

Perhaps Garrett is not the way to go for Detroit.
