DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys are adding to their quarterback depth after they lost Dak Prescott to a season-ending ankle injury in Sunday's win over the Giants.
According to multiple reports, Dallas will sign former Texas Longhorn and SMU Mustang Garrett Gilbert off of the Cleveland Browns practice squad.
Gilbert must clear the six-day COVID protocol before he can enter the team's facilities at The Star,
Once Gilbert clears the protocol, it's assumed that he'll take over back up quarterback duties from Cowboys rookie signal-caller Ben DiNucci. The Cowboys seventh round pick will back up Andy Dalton in Monday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Gilbert has bounced around several organizations since the Rams selected him the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft. In addition to the Rams and Browns, Gilbert has been a member of the Patriots, Lions, Raiders and Panthers.
The Lake Travis native has appeared in six career games, completing two passes for 40 yards.
