The newly-hired head coach of the Dallas Stars is reflecting on his time when he was fired from the team 12 years ago.
Glen Gulutzan says Stars General Manager Jim Nill was right in firing him in 2013.
"This is a league where you've got to get some wounds on you, some scars," Gulutzan said. "You've got to gain experience.
So, I reflect on those conversations in that time."
Gulutzan had been an assistant with the Edmonton Oilers which just lost to Florida in the Stanley Cup finals in six games.
He was 64-57-9 during his two years with the Stars from 2011 to 2013.
"Once you start working with veteran guys and stay in the league, it didn't take me long to realize that's what I needed," Gulutzan said.
