Patrick Mahomes may be gearing up to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV on Sunday, but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback may soon be going under the knife.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mahomes is likely to have surgery on his toe following the end of the season.

The 25-year-old quarterback will see a foot specialist before a final decision is made, but the expectation is significant enough that it will not heal on its own, per Rapoport.

Mahomes, who practiced fully every day this week and is not listed on the injury report, has been seen limping around between plays during the playoffs this winter, although it has not hindered his performance.

He completed 29-of-38 pass attempts for 325 yards and three touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

Yet, it will be interesting to see if it impacts him in the Super Bowl.

While he has had two weeks to help recover, the Chiefs will be without veteran offensive tackle Eric Fisher, which could mean Mahomes will need to be more mobile against a daunting Bucs pass rush.
