Yankees slugger Josh Donaldson has been a trending topic on social media in recent days, following his altercation with White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson.
In the latest development in the ugly saga, Donaldson was suspended for one game by MLB after Donaldson called Anderson "Jackie" Robinson during their most recent on-field confrontation.
Donaldson said after Saturday’s game that the remark was a playful jab and an inside joke about a 2019 story in which Anderson said he felt like he could be the next Jackie Robinson and bring change to the game. Anderson and his teammates clearly didn’t agree.
MLB, announcing the ban on Monday, said the racist barb was "disrespectful and in poor judgment."
On Baseball Twitter, the punishment was welcomed, but many felt it didn't go far enough.
It also didn't sit well with some journalists and fans that Donaldson promptly decided to appeal the suspension -- an apparent denial of wrongdoing.
