DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - New Rangers general manager Chris Young has all but wrapped up the team's position battle at second base despite spring training being more than two weeks away.

In an interview Thursday with MLB Network Radio, Young said he "projects" Nick Solak to be the club's starting second baseman in 2021, Jon Morosi reports.

Back in December, 105.3 The Fan's Jared Sandler relayed that there would be a battle between Solak and Rougned Odor in spring training to determine who gets the nod at second. But it appears that the club is ready to hand the keys over to Solak after Odor's continued struggles with consistency at the plate.

Texas has also made the decision to have Isiah Kiner-Falefa be their everyday shortstop next season, resulting in Elvis Andrus potentially shifting over to third base.

Young said that Andrus at third is an option, but the decision hasn't been completely sorted out because the club's top prospect, Josh Jung, could possibly be ready to make the jump to the big league club.

As for Odor, Young says he'll get opportunities at second, third and in the outfield this season.
