Dallas resident and defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler is near the top of the leaderboard after Round One at Augusta Thursday.

Scheffler finished the day at four-under, three off the pace set by Norway's Victor Hovland, American Brooks Koepka and the Spaniard Jon Rahm.

Dallas Jesuit product Jordan Spieth is four behind.

Plano native Will Zalatoris  --  who finished second in the 2021 Masters --  withdrew before his tee time Thursday, citing an unspecified injury.

Zalatoris has been battling a back injury for the past several months.

The six other Texans in the field all finished above par.

Because there's a threat of bad weather at Augusta this afternoon, this morning's tee times have been moved up a half-hour earlier, hoping most of the field can get back to the clubhouse before it gets rough.
