The Yankees added some defensive catching depth on Saturday, announcing they acquired Jose Trevino from the Rangers for Albert Abreu and Robert Ahlstrom.

Trevino, 29, batted .239 (68-for-285) with 14 doubles, five home runs, and 30 RBI in 89 games for the Rangers last season. He started exactly half of the Rangers’ games at catcher (81), and can provide backup behind Kyle Higashioka while newly acquired Ben Rortvedt continues to recover from an oblique injury.
