Fort Worth firefighters rescued more than a half-dozen people from a burning home early this morning.
Just before 4:00 a.m. Thursday firefighters were called to a home near O.D. Wyatt High School. When crews arrived they found seven people who were trapped in the back of the home, unable to get out through a security door.
Mike Drivdahl with Fort Worth Fire says crews were able to get the door open using rescue tools and pulled all seven people out.
Five of people inside the home were treated for minor smoke inhalation. "Thankfully everything (injuries) was minor" said Drivdahl.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.
Drivdahl says a fire like this underscores the importance of having an escape route out of your home that always includes at least two ways out.
