The Dallas Stars announced Tuesday that former captain Derian Hatcher and general manager Bob Gainey will be a part of the inaugural class of the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame.

"We are honored to announce the induction of Derian Hatcher and Bob Gainey into our inaugural class of the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame," Dallas Stars President and CEO Brad Alberts said. "Derian was everything that you would have wanted from a captain. He led with his actions on the ice and helped unite the locker room behind one common goal. Bob thoughtfully and meticulously constructed his roster and assembled extremely competitive teams. His commitment to winning helped cement hockey's popularity when the team moved to Dallas, resulting in generations of loyal Stars fans. We look forward to celebrating them during the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Weekend in October.

Hatcher and Gainey will be officially inducted during the club's Hall of Fame Weekend from Oct. 29-30, 2022. The two-day celebration will begin with the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. against the New York Rangers. Both inductees will participate in the ceremonial puck drop before the game and take part in the official unveiling of the AT&T Hall of Fame Rotunda at American Airlines Center. Immediately following the Stars/Rangers game, the club will host an alumni game featuring the Stars alumni team against the New York Rangers alumni team.

The Stars selected Hatcher with the eighth overall pick in the 1990 NHL Draft. He appeared in 827 regular-season games with the Stars over 12 seasons and registered 294 points. Hatcher was appointed team captain during the 1994-95 season and helped lead the Stars to unprecedented heights, culminating with the 1999 Stanley Cup and becoming the first American-born captain of a Stanley Cup-winning team.

He has the second-longest tenure of any defenseman in Stars history and his nine seasons as team captain are tied with current captain Jamie Benn for the longest captainship in the organization's history. Among all-time franchise leaders.

Gainey was part of the team's hockey operations department from 1990 - 2002. After the team relocated to Dallas, he guided the club to seven postseason berths and two Stanly Cup Final appearances, and five division championships.
