Two cases of possible labor violations have been filed against Tesla's gigafactory in Austin, and the Department of Labor is now investigating.
The Austin Immigrant Labor non-profit Workers Defense Project (WDP) accuses the Tesla gigafactory's contractors and subcontractors of wage theft and other mistreatment.
They say dozens of workers claimed they did not get their base pay, overtime or holiday pay. They also filed a complaint with OSHA saying those contractors and subcontractors gave false safety certificates.
The WDP doesn't want just worker protections, Policy Director David Chincanchan says they want Travis County Commissioners to hold Tesla to thier Better Builder Standards.
The federal investigation is expected to take about six months before fines would be issued if needed.
