Texas is not without its haunted spots, but we can’t remember having one directly in the heart of Downtown Dallas.
The La Quinta originally opened as the Scott Hotel back in 1925 and unfortunately, has become known over the years for murders and death.
According to Haunted Rooms America, no fewer than four deaths have been reported in the hotel, including that of gangster Jack “Smiley” Jackson, who was killed in the hotel’s now infamous Room 1009.
According to CW 33, Smiley Jackson now haunts the hotel’s tenth floor, and reportedly shuts the door on visitors.
Along with Smiley Jackson, a woman reportedly fell to her death or was pushed from the 10th floor, and a congressman committed suicide during his stay here on the 10th floor as well!
The hotel has become a hotspot for amateur paranormal enthusiasts, who have made the trek to downtown Dallas to see if they can encounter the ghost of Smiley Jackson for themselves.
The owners of the hotel have heard the tales but assure travelers it is completely safe to visit.
One La Quinta representative wrote on Trip Advisor, “We are very aware of these theories from the past but we feel pretty confident that when we tore down the walls and replaced nearly the entire interior that we chased them out!”
If you want to investigate for yourself, the haunted La Quinta is located at 302 South Houston Street, Dallas, TX 75202.
