Dolly Parton has withdrawn her name from this year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominations.

In a letter posted on social media, the country superstar wrote, "Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out."

The singer-songwriter added she hopes the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame "will understand and will be willing to consider (Parton) again."

Parton was one of the 17 nominees for this year, joining the likes of Carly Simon, Dionne Warwick, Pat Benatar, Eminem, Eurhythmics, and A Tribe Called Question.

Winners will be announced in May.
