A historic drive-in movie theater in Granbury was damaged during last night’s storms and the community is rallying to rebuild it.
Jennifer Miller, owner of The Brazos Drive-in Theater, says the movie screens are fine, but the theater’s fence is totally obliterated. So are the lights and decorations that were on it.
"It must have been some kind of tornado because it's scattered throughout the lot," Miller says. "It's going to be a major fix."
Photos of the damage posted online have gotten thousands of likes and shares, and Miller says hundreds of people have been offering to help rebuild. Miller, owner of the drive-in since 1986, says this is not the first time it's been damaged by severe weather. It's not the first time members of the community have stepped up to restore the beloved staple, either.
"This is what we want to see in this world," Miller says. "People giving their time and coming out and working on this. It's just amazing."
Lowe's has offered to donate supplies and Miller says the rebuilding process will hopefully be underway soon. She says more information about how to help will be posted on the theater's Facebook page, and she's currently working to set up a GoFundMe account.
With everyone’s help, Miller says the theater should reopen again in a couple of weeks.
