MedStar Mobile Health Care is hosting a "pop-up" vaccination clinic Thursday at its headquarters in West Fort Worth. The clinic at 2900 Alta Mere Dr., just south of I-30, runs until 2 p.m. No pre-registration is required.

"This is open to the public. It was kind of a last minute thing. We have enough doses of the vaccine to go around for today," says MedStar Assistant Operation Manager Brian White. "Our goal is to get as many people vaccinated as possible so we can end this and get back to a normal life."

In addition the availability of the vaccine, White says people can also tour the headquarters, meet first responders and see the 911 call center.

"This is a perfect opportunity to get vaccinated and find out a little bit more about this public service we offer," he says.

At the QuikTrip next to MedStar, one woman said, since she might be able to get questions answered, she was considering stopping at the clinic.

"I guess, probably like a lot of people, I'm just in the middle, just not sure," she said. "I want to do the right thing to protect my family and our loved ones because I'm around them all the time."

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, 64.4% of Texans 12 and older have received one dose of the vaccine; 53.9% are fully vaccinated. The agency says vaccinations in August are currently on a pace to exceed the number in July.

White says that increase may be the result of people nervous about hospitalizations and kids returning to school in-person.

"We've seen a little bit of an uptick but definitely not as much as we saw initially," he says.

Through Tuesday, the most recent date numbers were available, the Department of State Health Services said hospitals across Texas had 10,463 COVID-19 patients, the most since February 3.
