Many North Texans, along with many other residents of the Lone Star State, are in desperate need of plumbing work after last week's severe winter weather.
Abraham Burkat of CMH Plumbing Solutions in Mesquite had a special request of his crews while handling the massive influx of calls: don't charge anyone.
Burkat told NBC DFW, "We didn't charge anyone because we felt like it was the right thing to do. People were in need. It wasn't a situation where we were trying to make money. It was we were trying to get people's water back on."
One day last week, Burkat broke a personal record servicing 19 homes in one day, while his crews helped repair pipes at about 75 homes totally free of charge.
One of those homeowners helped was Odai Abdellatif, who had a pipe burst at his Little Elm home. He called Burkat in a panic, who eventually spent two hours making the repairs, and didn't ask for any payment. Abdellatif said, "That's actually the crazy part of this whole thing. He did not want to take anything at all!"
And Abdellatif says it was the wedding gift he didn't ask for, because just two days after the burst pipe, he walked down the aisle. Burkat said, "That's just amazing! And that's what drives me right there. The best thing you can do is just unite people by smiles and by doing good deeds."
