City and state leaders, including Governor Greg Abbott, gathered today in Frisco for the groundbreaking of the Omni PGA Frisco resort.

"This is not only going to be a resort project," said Jim Richardson, President of the PGA of America, during the ceremony. "It's going to be a project that's going to make memories and create moments for families in generations to come."

The new resort is planned to feature two championship level golf courses as well as a short course, meeting spaces, restaurants and golf villas.

The golf courses are expected to open next summer and the rest of the facilities are planned to open within six months of that.

The new development is set to host the Kitchen Aid Senior PGA Championship in 2023.
