Texas is known for many things, but when it comes to food it’s hard to beat BBQ or Tex-Mex in the Lone Star state. However, a new report claims there’s another food group that stands out in DFW that isn’t getting enough attention.
The report named Dallas as one of the best cities for doughnuts, naming it one of America’s doughnut capitals.
In celebration of National Doughnut Day over the weekend, The Washington Post shared a new report naming the best cities in America for doughnuts. While many expected to see East Coast staples like Boston or Hartford, Connecticut on the list, it was Dallas that was honored for its density and diversity of doughnut shops.
According to Dallas Morning News, Dallas is home to at least one location of the five biggest doughnut brands in America: Dunkin’, Daylight Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Shipley Do-Nuts and Donut Palace.
The other two doughnut capitals named by the report were Providence, R.I., for doughnut density and Salt Lake City for diversity. To come up with these cities, the report used Yelp reviews and calculated the most common doughnut shop in groups of census tracts around the country.
Now, the next time someone asks for a Texas dining recommendation, they may get sent to a doughnut shop.
