Restaurants across North Texas started taking reservations Monday for DFW Restaurant Week. The event is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and about 100 restaurants are participating. A complete list is available at DFWRestaurantWeek.com

"The last couple of years looked a little different, so we're looking for individuals to come out this year and really be able to support this event," say North Texas Food Bank Chief Executive Trisha Cunningham.

Last year, the event raised $425,000. Cunningham says this year, DFW Restaurant Week is introducing brunch at some restaurants and "Signature Experience Dinners."

"That has some extra-special touches, depending on the restaurant. It could be signature cocktails, a chef's table or some additional courses," Cunningham says.

Signature Experience Dinners cost $99. Regular dinners cost $39 to $49.

Cunningham says need spiked during the pandemic, and the North Texas Food Bank gave out 125 million meals in 20201, but she says the need has remained high as a result of inflation.

"We're hoping people will be back in the restaurants this year and really enjoying these experiences because it will really make a huge difference in our community," she says.

Cunningham says many of the people who will be serving and preparing the food were among those hit hardest during closures in 2020.

"There is food insecurity in every zip code. Dallas County certainly does have the highest amount, but the second highest is Collin County and the third highest in our 13 counties we serve is in Denton County," she says. "There are higher percentages of food insecurity when you go out to some of the more rural communities, but if you look at concentrations of people who need access to food, we see it in every zip code."

Preview weekend starts August 4, and DFW Restaurant Week begins Monday, August 8. Reservations opened Monday, and details are available at
