A fundraiser aiming to make a huge difference in the lives of single parents across North Texas is rapidly approaching.
The 2024 Life Changer Celebrity Golf Classic is being held at The Clubs of Prestonwood Hills Championship Golf Course in Plano on Tuesday, April 9.
Stacie Martin, founder and president of Single Parent Advocate, and Scott Murray, former NBC 5 sports anchor, have joined efforts to support single parents and children in North Texas.
The organization, Single Parent Advocate, was born from Martin's personal experience as a single mother, facing the challenges of raising her son in Dallas-Fort Worth while working.
"It really burned on my heart to take the problems and the things that I was going through as it relates to that particular window and leverage it for help for families like mine," says Martin.
So, Single Parent Advocate was born.
Murray expressed his admiration for Martin's work and how he got involved with the organization. Having pursued a career in pediatric medicine before transitioning to television, Murray felt a strong connection to the cause.
In a collaboration to support the educational needs of single parents and their children, the Scott Murray Scholarship Foundation is providing scholarships to students from single-parent families.
"We just give away scholarships to kiddos that need a helping hand, and a lot of them are from single parent families," Murray adds.
The foundation aims to support children, particularly those who may not have a family legacy of higher education.
Martin knows the importance of education in strengthening families.
"I was a single mom, and I didn't know how I was going to put things together for my son to go to college," Martin explained.
At Single Parent Advocate their goal is to equip, empower, and encourage families, emphasizing the transformative impact education can have on both parents and their children.
The collaboration between Single Parent Advocate and the Scott Murray Scholarship Foundation culminates in the Life Changer Celebrity Golf Classic, an event in its third year.
The event aims to raise support and awareness for the cause, offering opportunities for individuals and sponsors to get involved.
"We want everybody to come out and have a great day," Martin expressed.
