Plenty throughout DFW struggled without power or heat during the winter storm that struck the area back in February, but one man has turned his misfortune into a trip to Italy. Thanks to the power of social media, the 91 year old Army veteran will be spending a few nights at the Waldorf Astoria in Rome. After his granddaughter shared the experience online, the historic hotel reached out, offering the man a free trip.

Like many others in DFW, when Ezell Holley lost power in his home last month, he quickly began searching for a hotel room to escape the cold. With the help of his granddaughter, he eventually found a motel to stay in. Once a room was finally secured for the grandfather, his response was “Hey, I heard you got us a room at the Waldorf,” according to his granddaughter, Alex.

Of course, Alex documented the entire experience on Twitter, and the next day received a response from the official Twitter account of the Waldorf Astoria in Rome, according to WFAA. “I never dreamed of that, that’s beyond my imagination,” Holley said after being offered a free stay at the hotel. After the hotel offered to help with the flight as well, Holley will soon be getting the hotel experience he dreamed of.
