As a kid, Jesus Moroles attended Sidney Lanier Expressive Arts Vanguard in West Dallas.

He went on to study at the University of North Texas, and became an internationally recognized sculptor, though he sadly passed in 2015.

Well this week, the school Moroles' attended as a kid was renamed to honor the late sculptor, with Dallas ISD officially naming the institute the Jesus Moroles Expressive Arts Vanguard.

Family and friends gathered at the campus for the ribbon cutting ceremony earlier this week. Andi Ramirez, Moroles’ cousin, who also was the one to initially submit Moroles' name for consideration in the change, told WFAA "I get chills. I don’t even know how to put it into words how significant this is."

His sister Suzanna Moroles added, "His passion for children. This would be so special for him."

In addition to the school renaming, family members say they are continuing the Jesus Moroles' legacy through Friends of Jesus Moroles, a non-profit foundation that supports the arts and educational endeavors of the school.

Organizers said the non-profit can be supported during North Texas Giving Day. For more information, you can visit https://www.friendsofmoroles.org/.
