The women's golf team at Dallas Baptist University is really. In fact, they are really really good.
The Division II team just notched their first victory of the season, playing in a tournament that was filled with bigger, Division I schools, and they won. Big.
In a tournament where they were the only Division II school, DBU won by 27 strokes! Head coach Kenny Trapp told WFAA, "They know that they're expected to play great. That's why they come here."
The team doesn't pay attention to their smaller stature, however. Member Faith DeLaGarza, who won the individual title at the tournament on Kiawah Island in South Carolina, said, "It shows all Division II athletes that even though you're Division III, Division II, if you're gonna be on your game that day, you can definitely compete with anybody that's in Division I."
Not only did DBU win by a massive margin, they were forced to alter their training plans during the severe winter weather a few weeks back! Senior Hanna Harrison said, "It was hard, because we weren't getting to get outside and putt. Putting was a big thing." Coach Trapp added, "We were basically stuck on campus."
While an excellent way to start the season, the team only has one goal in mind: "National Championship," Harrison said. "That's our goal. It has been."
