Former Amarillo banker could soon be headed to federal prison

40-year-old Heather Cooper pleaded guilty to embezzling thousands of dollars from First Capital Bank of Texas in Amarillo. T

he U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Erin Nealy Cox says Cooper first started working at the bank in 2012 as a mortgage loan processor. in August of 2017 until January of 2020, investigators say she admitted to making over 19 fraudulent withdrawals.


Prosecutors say Cooper also said she used a credit card issued by FirstCapital Bank of Texas for personal expenses.

Investigators say in total she embezzled over $32,000. She could face up to 30 years in prison when sentenced in April.

The Amarillo Police Department and the FBI conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Taylor is prosecuting the case.
