Houston's police chief Art Acevedo will now serve as the new police chief in Miami, Florida.

This morning, city of Miami leaders and Acevedo held a press conference.

Acevedo says, "I wasn't looking for this opportunity but in my heart I knew that my Mayor Sylvestor Turner's time was coming up. I was contemplating what's next. Politics are not in my heart. Service is in my heart and making a difference is in my heart."

Acevedo also says, "I believe that God meant for us to be here on this day. I'm a person of faith. I'm not afraid to talk about my faith. Every door that's open is open by the good Lord up above. Every door that's closed is on his time."

Acevedo has served more than four years as Houston's police chief. He was assigned to oversee more than 5,200 police officers.
