Large explosion and fire after train collides with 18-wheeler in central Texas

Officials say a tractor-trailer collided with a freight train in central Texas early Tuesday, causing a large explosion and fire.

Milam County Sheriff Chris White said a BNSF train collided with a flatbed tractor-trailer at about 6:40 a.m. at a marked crossing along Farm-to-Market Road 2095 southeast of the town of Cameron.

Officials say the train was carrying gasoline and coal in the front compartments and that is what led to the massive explosion, according to NBCDFW.com

Nearby residents and businesses were evacuated as a precaution as the fire continued to burn several hours. White said BNSF sent crews from Dallas and Houston to help bring the fire under control while heavy foam is being brought in from Temple to help extinguish the fire.
