POLICE: 18-wheeler accident on US 75 bridge in Allen leaves one dead

The traffic accident involving an 18-wheeler on US 75 in Allen resulted in one death, according to Allen police.

Police say they responded to the call of a major crash on US 75 around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered the tractor-trailer hanging off the overpass. Outside the tractor-trailer, they found a male driver who died as a result of his injuries from the wreck.

Video shows the semi-truck on its side with the cab of the vehicle hanging over the side of an overpass. Four lanes have been shut down resulting in a traffic back-up continued into the late afternoon.

Officials learned that the 18-wheeler was driving on the southbound lanes when it collided with another vehicle and after that drove over the right safety barrier, slid to a stop, and came to rest suspended from the overpass at West Bethany Drive.

Police said they expected the highway to be shut down for an extended period of time.
