Two people have been charged with murder after a woman died from a fentanyl overdose in Denton, police say.
Police responded to a 911 call about a drug overdose on Hickory Street on Dec. 27, where they found a 34-year-old woman dead at the scene. An investigation revealed that the woman had purchased fentanyl from 29-year-old Taylor Lambert and 38-year-old Matthew Clark the night before her death.
Under Texas law, individuals who sell fentanyl that results in a fatality can be charged with murder. Police arrested Lambert on Wednesday in Richardson and Clark on Thursday in Dallas.
This marks the eighth fentanyl-related murder case in Denton since the law took effect in 2023. Authorities continue to crack down on illegal fentanyl distribution as overdose deaths rise statewide.
