On Thursday afternoon, a 36-year-old man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a crime that happened in 2019.

Lee Joiner admitted that he raped a Fort Worth woman and then beat her to death before dumping her body in a parking lot back on Sept. 17, 2019. The Tarrant County District Attorney said Joiner killed 53-year-old Ruby Maeda several days after he raped two other women in the same area of Fort Worth.

Both of those women survived. Fort Worth police had initially arrested Joiner for the two assaults before he was named as a suspect in the murder.

Joiner was sentenced to 40 years in prison for murder and sexual assault.
