A former Irving ISD bus driver assistant has been arrested on a child grooming charge after a student reported inappropriate contact, police said.
The Irving Independent School District notified the Irving Police Department on April 8 after a juvenile told their parents they had been inappropriately touched the previous day.
Police identified the suspect as 75-year-old Juan Gonzalez, who is no longer employed by the district. The department’s Crimes Against Children Unit launched an investigation and, based on the victim’s outcry and additional electronic evidence, obtained a warrant for his arrest.
During an interview, Gonzalez indicated there may be additional victims during the roughly three years he worked for Irving ISD, from February 2023 to April 2026, police said.
Gonzalez was arrested April 9 and is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Because of his role as a substitute assistant working various bus routes during pick-up and drop-off, investigators are urging parents to speak with their children about appropriate and inappropriate contact.
