The city of Fort Worth says almost 800 dogs and cats, old and young, are currently calling a shelter their home. They say the shelters are at or near capacity and have been for some time, not helped by the fact that more pets are moving into the shelter than out on a day-to-day basis.

During this event: "Adoption fees are waived for all dogs over 40 pounds and for adoptions by members of the military. Adoption fees include an initial medical examination, vaccinations, micro-chip and spay/neuter services. Adopters also receive a coupon book and a complimentary bag of pet food courtesy of PetSmart Charities."

Per the city, the four locations in question are:
- South Campus, 4900 Martin St.
- PetSmart Adoption Center Hulen, 4800 S.W. Loop 820 (I-20 at Hulen).
- PetSmart Adoption Center Alliance, 2901 Texas Sage Trail (I-35W at Heritage Trace).
- North Campus, 351 Hillshire Drive.
