The man who tried to open a door on an American Airlines flight to Dallas last week will face the consequences in federal court.
29-year-old Abdul-al-Jabbar Olaiya has been charged with interfering with a flight crew by assault or intimidation. It's a federal charge that could send him to prison for 20 years.
A week ago, Oliaya was on a flight from Milwaukee to Dallas. Court documents say Oliaya started arguing with a flight attendant, then he announced he was "the captain of the plane" and demanded to get off while the plane was 30,000 feet in the air. Then he lunged at the door.
Passenger Doug McCright was watching it all. McCright and two others wrestled Olaiya to the floor where he was tied up with duct tape. He was busted as soon as the plane got on the ground.
