An man accused in a Dallas murder who fled the state before his trial has a court date in Tulsa, Oklahoma today.
Court records show that Tyrese Simmons was about to stand trial in June when officials say he cut off his ankle monitor and fled the state.
Simmons was arrested in Tulsa several weeks later where he has a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. He was arrested after a standoff at a hotel in the 1000 block of North Garnett Road, near Interstate 244 in Tulsa.
His court date today is to chart a course for the case so that he can be extradited back to Dallas county.
Simmons is one of the so-called rappers who is accused of murdering 9-year- old Brandoniya Bennett in an East Dallas in 2019.
Police reports say the innocent girl was sitting on her couch in her family's apartment when a bullet punched through the door. Police say Simmons and another man were mad at a rival rapper and opened fire at the wrong door, killing the girl.
Simmons had been allowed to bond out of jail during the pandemic if he wore the ankle monitor, which he later removed.
