An accused killer is now on the streets in Dallas after being released from jail because of evidence lost when Dallas police investigation materials were deleted from the computer system.
Jonathan Pitts was being held for trial on a murder charge from two years ago when a man was gunned down at a northwest Dallas hotel that was long known by police for drugs, sex trafficking and murder. It has since been torn down.
Pitt's is apparently the first defendant to be set free since the police data loss blamed on a civilian IT employee.
Pitts was released without bond but was required to wear an ankle monitor.
He was supposed to go on trial last week, but with the data loss, no one knows when, or if, he will ever be tried.
