In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Puca!

Meet Puca, the sweet, goofy, lovable ray of sunshine! At two years old, Puca's adorable puppy dog eyes and soft, spotted fur are heart-melters. This mixed breed girl adores people, cuddles, attention, playtime, and exploring. She's ready to be a beautiful brown-eyed addition to your life, and Puca gets along with kids and other dogs with her loving and friendly nature. The more, the merrier for this spirited girl! You can meet Puca any day between noon and 6 p.m. at the SPCA of Texas' Dallas Animal Care Center located at 2400 Lone Star Dr.
Meet Vaca!

Meet Vaca, the sweet and shy 2-year-old Siberian Husky mix whose name means cow in Spanish…and it just so happens that her silky coat is black and white!
She may have been a bit nervous when she first walked into the SPCA of Texas, but thanks to her wonderful new friends…staff and volunteers…she's discovered that making new pals is actually a blast! Playing with new friends? Count her in!
Now, when it comes to kids, Vaca can be a tad shy. She'd love to meet any little ones in the home to make sure they know to take it slow and easy with her.
And what about other furry friends, you ask? Well, Vaca is open to meeting potential doggie buddies at the shelter before heading home. A calmer, well-socialized dog would be best.
Meet Shira!

Meet Shira, the 3-year-old, 87 pound mixed breed gal who has a heart as big as her story! And she’s waiting for you at the SPCA of Texas. Shira came to us pregnant, and in her foster home, she not only gave birth to and raised all her pups but proved to be an incredible mama.
Now that her puppies have found their homes, it's Shira's turn to find her forever family. Her foster mom raves about how well-behaved and non-jumpy she is—a true testament to her gentle nature.
Shira's dream is simple: to go on nice, quiet walks, be your best friend, and, of course, steal your heart.
Shira prefers to be the only dog, and a house with a yard would be perfect for her. She's completely house-trained and ready to be the center of attention in her forever home.
Meet Uma!

Are you ready to open your heart and home to a furry friend in need? Meet Uma, a delightful 3-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix weighing in at 62 pounds of pure love and loyalty. She’s sure to win your heart with her freckled nose and happy smile!
Uma is more than just a pretty face; she's a gentle soul with a tender nature that will melt your heart. While a bit shy at first, Uma blossoms into a loyal and affectionate companion once she feels the warmth of your love. Her endearing personality shines through, making her the perfect addition to any loving home.
Currently, Uma is undergoing treatment for heartworms, but don't let that deter you. With the right care and attention, she is on the road to a full recovery and is eager to find her forever family. As part of her treatment plan, Uma is currently under exercise restrictions, making her an ideal "couch potato" companion who also loves leash walks. Picture cozy evenings, cuddles on the couch, and a furry friend to share life's sweet moments with.
Considering Uma as your new family member? We offer a foster-to-adopt program, allowing you to spend time getting to know Uma in your home before making a permanent commitment. This ensures a seamless transition for Uma and a chance for you to witness her true personality shining through.
By choosing Uma, you not only gain a loyal companion but also the satisfaction of providing a second chance to a dog in need. You will need to bring Uma to the SPCA clinic periodically for treatment, which is completely covered by the organization.
