In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet our featured Pet Pal, Ralph! UPDATE: Ralph has been adopted!

Albus

Meet Albus! He is a friendly little fellow waiting for a forever home at the SPCA of Texas. He is a 44-pound Catahoula Leopard Dog mix with a dappled coat and a goofy smile to go with his sparkling eyes. Albus seems to do well with other dogs, so he might even be a good pal for a pet who is already in the home. Albus came to the SPCA of Texas as part of an animal cruelty seizure out of Van Zandt County. He has been with the SPCA of Texas for just about a month now, and has been treated for heartworms so he has spent most of this time on exercise restrictions, though it is obvious he is rearing to go. He is currently housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him. Just find his profile at SPCA.org/dogs and fill out an application and he'll be waiting.
Gimley
UPDATE: Gimley has been adopted!

Meet Gimley! He is a younger pooch available for adoption at the SPCA of Texas. Gimley is a 38-pound pup with all kinds of mixed breeds happening. He is just over a year old and full of that youthful energy. Gimley is covered in black fur with some white and tan highlights here and there. The staff describes him as "sweet and goofy" and noted that he loves to play with other dogs and people. Gimlet came to the SPCA of Texas from Ellis County as a stray dog just over a month ago. From his behavior it is obvious he will be a much happier dog with a family than he was when he was wandering the streets alone. He was very friendly and easy to handle on his intake, and seems ready to be a loving pet just about anywhere. He is at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center so no appointment is necessary to meet him.
Durk
UPDATE: Durk has been adopted!

Meet Durk! Durk is a large mixed breed dog at 51 pounds. He has an unusual wavy brindle color pattern in his fur, and a very sleek and sly smile in his face. Durk originally came to the SPCA as a puppy. He was adopted out and recently came back as an alumni surrender as the person who adopted him has been facing some hardships. Durk is a timid dog, so he will likely be a bit shy in the first meeting. He is getting to know the staff and coming out of his shell nicely, but it would be best for Durk to go to a home with a very calm environment. It is also recommended that any children in the home be at least 10 years of age. An existing dog in the home might be a bonus, as Durk seems really into playing with other pups. Just bring any existing dogs down to the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center for a meet-and-greet.
Prissy
UPDATE: Prissy has been adopted!

Meet Prissy! Prissy is a young kitten now available for adoption at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas. She is only five months old and weighs only 4 pounds. She is a Domestic Medium Hair mix with soft fur that alternates gray to black. She has big yellow eyes that scan her surroundings. Prissy is a cat-lovers cat, and it would be best for her to go home to a new fur sibling. She is somewhat shy on first meeting and would do well with an experienced and patient human parent. Prissy came to the SPCA of Texas from the Community Cat program and had been staying with a foster. It may take a bit of time for her to get used to her new surroundings, but she should make a totally adorable new addition for the right family. There is no appointment necessary to come and meet her in person.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
