Protesters who held demonstrations in cities around the Metroplex this weekend say they are now looking ahead. "No Kings" protests had been organized across the country Saturday.

In Fort Worth, several hundred people met in Burnett Park in the western part of Downtown. Police say the demonstration stayed peaceful.

"We appreciated those who remained respectful, lawful, and peaceful as you made your voices heard," the department posted on X after the protest. "This is what working together to support community safety through smart coordination looks like. Let’s continue to keep Fort Worth safe for all."

Moving forward, demonstrators say they hope to keep attention on issues like immigration. They say the Texas economy needs reform so construction companies and farms can fill open jobs.

One woman was dressed as the Statue of Liberty.

"The Statue of Liberty says, 'Give us your wretched.' Well, we don't want to take anything, now. We are sending people back," she says. "Our country was founded on immigrants. We are all immigrants to this country."

Mid-term elections are still 17 months away, but demonstrators in Fort Worth say they hope to maintain interest and convince people to participate in elections.

"After this last election, a lot of people who are liberal-leaning became very despondent about the whole thing," one woman said.

Another said she hopes enough seats in the U.S. House and Senate will flip to Democrats during the mid-terms to impeach Donald Trump a third time and win a conviction.

"He's going against the Constitution and breaking laws. A president shouldn't do that sort of stuff," she said. "He's a bad example. He's a poor leader."

The demonstration in Fort Worth did not draw an organized counter-protest.

Donald Trump won Texas 56 to 43 percent in 2024, an increase from 52 to 47 percent in 2020. In 2016, he beat Hillary Clinton 53 to 44 percent in Texas.

Nationwide, Trump won six states in 2024 he lost in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
