Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won the support of a number of current and former sheriffs across Texas.
Several sheriffs joined Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn in Fort Worth.
"It is a great honor to stand with the Attorney General today and endorse him," Sheriff Waybourn said. "There is no problem where he stands. He has supported law enforcement in his record, he has done it vigorously on a national level as well as a local level."
Paxton says his office has dedicated itself to prosecuting violent criminals and defending the authority of officers under Texas law.
"As Attorney General, my office has dedicated itself to prosecuting violent criminals, supporting local law enforcement, defending officers in court, protecting their authority under Texas law, and standing up against policies that put politics ahead of public safety," Paxton said.
When members of the local media began asking questions, Paxton said he would only answer questions regarding law enforcement.
Paxton faces State Representative James Talarico in November.
Sheriff Waybourn says voters should study the policies and voting records of both candidates.
