Hundreds of enthusiastic participants set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest game of human foosball on May 23 at Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore Campus West in Etobicoke, Ontario, as part of celebrations leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Organized by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), an Official Toronto World Cup 2026 Host City Supporter, the event drew 254 players who braved rainy, chilly conditions to take part in the life-sized version of the classic tabletop game. Dressed in neon soccer jerseys, participants gripped oversized horizontal poles on a custom-built 150-by-68-foot pitch, shuffling in unison to kick a giant soccer ball toward massive goals while a live brass band, DJ, and commentators kept the energy high.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Chloe McCarthy confirmed the new record on site, noting the attempt surpassed the required minimum of 251 participants. The final score of the spirited match was 12-9. The event highlighted teamwork, community spirit, and excitement for soccer as Canada, Mexico, and the United States prepare to host the World Cup.

OLG partnered with Ontario Soccer for the attempt, which also included a pledge to support grassroots soccer through donations funding mentorship and training for thousands of additional coaches and referees across the province. Ontario Minister of Sport Neil Lumsden and other officials praised the record as a fun way to build buzz and give back to local communities that support the sport.
The achievement comes as Ontario ramps up preparations for its role in the global tournament, showcasing the province’s passion for soccer and its ability to bring people together for memorable experiences.
