The Texas Department of Public Safety had to cancel driver's license appointments for a third day Thursday because of a computer issue that started over Labor Day weekend.

DPS said it used the holiday weekend to update its driver's license system, but the upgrade caused the system to go down.

DPS had planned to restart appointments at noon Thursday, but Thursday morning, the agency said appointments would be cancelled all day.

"Customers are being notified of the cancellation through preferred email or phone number and given priority rebooking," DPS wrote on X. "Department personnel continue working to fix the issue, which is related to the driver license system upgrade that began over the Labor Day weekend."

The computer issue affected license renewals and replacements and the ability to obtain a driving record or verify eligibility.

Some people who had not heard the update were still showing up for appointments at a megacenter in Fort Worth on Thursday afternoon.

"It's kind of frustrating for a lot of people," one woman said.

"Are you going to give me some grace for this? I've been trying to take care of this for the last two days," another said.

KRLD asked DPS how it might handle someone with a recently expired license. Thursday afternoon, the agency had not responded.

On X, DPS said crews were working to fix the problem.

"There have been no security issues reported at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience," the agency wrote.
